Alan J. Fletcher was born in 1958 and was raised in Portland
Oregon. He has been in the carpet and flooring business for over 28 years and much of his
extensive knowledge about the business comes from within his family.
His Grandfather, Father, Aunt and Uncle all had long careers in the flooring
industry. This has given Alan extensive knowledge and insight of the flooring
industry and is a third generation flooring professional.
When asked about his childhood, Alan remembers playing with
carpet samples. By age eleven, he was helping out in his fathers' carpet showroom
organizing and categorizing the different styles of carpet and padding samples.
By the time he was 17, it was natural to pursue a career in the flooring
industry. He began as an apprentice at Granum Bros. Seamless Floors in
Milwaukie, Oregon where he was trained by several master craftsmen to install all types of vinyl flooring,
carpet, ceramic tile and hardwood floors. Alan attended the Bruce Hardwood
Flooring School in 1978.
Since 1982, Alan J. Fletcher has owned and operated a floor
covering contracting business and has experience working in 7 States including
Oregon, Washington, Texas, Florida, Arkansas, Missouri, and Tennessee. His vast
floorcovering knowledge and experience comes from sales and installation of practically every
type of flooring in thousands of custom homes, apartments and commercial
Buildings.
Alan is the author and editor of two
websites offering free carpet buying advice and information
to consumers.
